Bench Time #148: The Reenacting Episode (1)
Friday Oct 09, 2020
Friday Oct 09, 2020
A lot of you asked and we delivered... The first reenacting episode. We went through a TON of stories and jumped around a bit, but it was a blast to relive some reenacting memories with each other and if anything we had fun going back into some great memories that we shared. We discussed maybe a part 2 at some point later because there are a TON of great stories. Maybe we do one about our past in other areas too? Might be a fun break every few months for us mentally too.

Is it officially fall yet? Well it's officially past Labor Day, so this is the first unofficial episode of Fall and we were very excited to bring Doug Foscale from FOS Scale Models back on the podcast to talk about his newest limited run kit, Atlas Gorge!
Not only did Doug go over the inspiration and work it took to make the kit, but he dove into some of the specific modeling skills and techniques he had to use to create the diorama and scenery around the entire build.
This episode is packed full of neat modeling tricks and tips, so keep your ears peeled for little hints and ways Doug created some of the effects he did.
More on the Atlas Gorge Kit (very limited quantities left):
Description from FOS Scale Models
2,500 years would go by before the mapmaker’s mill would be built. On a warm spring day two and a half millennia ago, an ice dam broke, sending a torrent of glacial water blasting though rock and earth at sixty miles per hour. By the end of that spring day, the Atlas Gorge was born. Carved and scarred by ice age turbulence, the Gorge would eventually be home to Hachey & Varga Cartography. By the late 1800’s Thomas Michael Hachey and Francis Varga came upon the Gorge during one of their map making expeditions. With its ever-rushing waters, it seemed fitting that they built a great mill over the Gorge, harnessing its natural flow to power their map and atlas printing efforts.
The main building, Hachey & Varga Cartographers, sits grandly above the gorge. It’s distinct and prominent tower, defines its landmark status in town. An adjacent boiler house, churns black smoke from its stacks supplying auxiliary power when the river runs low. With its intricate printing and binding equipment, a sturdy concrete block machine shop provides support and maintenance.
Across the road sits J. Prater, Carpenters, a wood working and hardware shop. Its main structure branches off into smaller ones, each clinging to the shear rock of the gorge.
Fresh steak chops sizzle on the grill, waiting to raise your cholesterol levels at Mulder’s Diner. Should your pickup need a tire repair, stop by Buddy’s Flat Fix. Buddy will have some colorful words for you if you don’t pull up in a Chevy, but he’ll fix your piece of junk anyway (his words, not ours).

Bench Time #143: Layout & Model Building Update with the Wileys
Friday Sep 04, 2020
Friday Sep 04, 2020
This week it was just my dad and I, wrapping up an awesome summer of guests, model building and a new outlook on things as we were all thrown into some weird circumstances that nobody could've ever predicted. We've all wittnessed some seriously kick-ass work from all of you and we've all stepped our games up as we've been spending more time from home than we probably all have our entire lives.
You can look at this negatively, but that doesn't help anything and if you take the good out of things, you'll see that we've all stepped up our model building skills and have been working on some serious projects.
Don't forget, the LIVE builds continue on Monday 9/7/2020 at 7:30pm with Todd and are followed by Brett on Tuesday 9/8/2020 at 7:30pm (both EST).

What an awesome time it was to have James A. Powell from Monster City Studios on the show. If you aren't familiar with James, you sure are familiar with his San Juan Central Model Railroad, formerly owned by Malcom Furlow. In addition to working to restore the San Juan Central, James had been busy at Monster City Studios and creating some awesome YouTube videos which you need to check out here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD092dInyTpPdBn-8fb0jHw
There is also a cool tool that James and his team have been pumping out for the scale modeling world called the BRICK MONSTER which you can check out here: https://www.maskandshield.com/brick-monster/. This tool lets you quickly make brick walls out of sculpy in a matter of minutes!
It was a blast talking to James about his history in the scale modeling hobby (of all scales) and we can't wait to get him back on again in the near future to talk about more techniques!
